メディアがつくるジェンダー 日独の男女・家族像を読みとく (Das Geschlecht als Konstrukt der Medien)
In gender studies we understand “gender” not merely as a biological category, but also as a social and cultural construct. The media are particularly important in the construction of gender roles in society. Ths publication looks at the examples of Japan and Germany and examines gender roles in different media products in both countries, with an emphasis on Japan.
The starting point for this book were papers presented during a Japanese conference on “The Image of the Family in Japanese Media” at the German Institute for Japanese Studies in Tokyo, which was organized by Hilaria Gössmann. The present publication incorporates those papers that looked at the subject of family from the point of view of gender studies (the complete proceedings of the conference were published as volume 20 of the DIJ monograph series). Also included are two papers by German researchers that were presented at a Japanese-German conference on “The Image of Women in the Media,” organized by Hara Hiroko (Ochanomizu University) and the Goethe Institute in Tokyo. Three further contributions were written specifically for this publication.
