The Examination of Business Performance Factors in West-European Subsidiaries in Japan

 As a result of increase in global competition, organizations have been forced to rethink how they produce and deliver products and services. To compete more directly and effectively with global rivals, organizations have established facilities in foreign countries. However, moving their operations overseas has not been sufficient in enabling companies to compete in the global marketplace. Companies had to change their organizational structure to enable them to run more effectively with lower number of employees.
The aim of this research is to find evidence that certain organizational and environmental factors are influencing the performance of West-European subsidiaries in Japan more than others. By determining the factors which have the most influence on the business performance in Japan, foreign companies would be able to change their organizational factors to a better fitting and more efficient one. This should finally lead to a better performance within Japan, since the organizational- and environmental factors could be taken into optimal consideration.

Short CV:
Rene W. Kaeppeli was born 1970 in Switzerland. He holds an architecture degree from Switzerland and a MBA from Great Britain. Currently he is a Ph.D. Candidate at Rikkyo University in Tokyo at the Department of Applies Social Relation, with the focus on “Business Performances of Subsidiaries in Japan”. His business experience was gained by working several years as a Chief Controller and partly as a Vice Manager of Finance and Controlling at the Asset-Management of the Swiss Federal Railways in Switzerland and by working at the Swiss Air Force Headquarter in Zurich, Switzerland. He also gained international work experience as an architect in Holland, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
